Dozer the Goldendoodle raises awareness and spirits

As their owners will readily tell you, Goldendoodles have the uncanny ability to steal the spotlight everywhere they go. One four-legged runner named Dozer surprised everyone — and became a sensation — when he invited himself to join a half marathon for cancer in 2011. The romping doodle finished the race and sauntered back home to his unsuspecting owner.

Once all the facts had come together, Dozer’s run received national attention from news outlets and social media. Donations poured in and his participation ended up raising about $25,000. Today, Dozer doesn’t run the race but his presence there continues to be strongly felt. Every year, money is given in his name at race time, Dozer’s Dash, a race within the race, commemorates his trek, and his marathoning exploits are even the subject of an illustrated children’s book (“Dozer’s Run: A True Story of a Dog and His Race”).

Leave it to a Goldendoodle to spur all this good will and happy hoopla. There’s just something about this extraordinary crossbreed that people respond to. We here at Blue Ridge Goldendoodles are certainly caught up in their spell…and we wouldn’t have it any other way.

We have Goldendoodle puppies that are ready for new forever homes right now. Visit our “Available Puppies” page for pictures and details. About the Author:

I own and operate Blue Ridge Goldendoodles with my husband Jeff. We have been professional dog breeders for 15 years, starting with Labrador Retrievers then changing to English Creme Golden Retrievers before evolving into English Creme Goldendoodles also known as Teddybear Goldendoodles. We are proud to say that all of our puppies are born and raised in our home with our three children. Being raised with our family insures the puppies are highly socialized and exposed to different environments. This also allows us to interact and get to know the puppies individually. All our breeding dogs either live with us in our home or in guardian/foster homes. Please check out our website and get to know us and our dogs.
