If you’re considering adding a pet for the holidays, a Goldendoodle puppy could be the perfect choice. Doodles are a cross between the Golden Retriever and the Poodle. This specially-bred hybrid has exploded in popularity with one recent study declaring that they are actually the most rapidly growing breed in terms of popularity across all dog varieties over the last two decades.
There are several wonderful factors that combine in the Goldendoodle to account for their surge. The most obvious thing is they are beautiful dogs. There is a range of coat types for Goldendoodles. Some have long, wavy hair, some have loose or tightly curled hair and some are born with flat coats. They come in a full spectrum of colors that includes white, black, red, apricot, brown and parti (mixed colors).
Goldendoodles are classified as low or no-shed, which makes them allergy-friendly (but not hypo-allergenic, which no dog truly is). They were first bred by the Australian Guide Dog Association in 1989 to alleviate the allergy issues that keep some from using seeing-eye dogs. They make wonderful therapy dogs for the same reasons that they are beloved family companions: They are extremely smart, extremely affectionate and have a beautiful temperament.
At the same time, the Goldendoodle is an athletic breed. They love to take long walks, play games and run with abandon. If you are thinking about adding one or more to your family, you should have a plan to ensure that they receive plenty of daily exercise. If you have energetic kids, this can be as simple as letting them all wear themselves out in the backyard.
With Christmas right around the corner, you should start the process now if you want to have one of these beautiful canine companions for the holiday.
